Timeshare Scams and Fraud

My husband and I traveled to the Grand Mayan Resort in may, 2014 for a week's vacation. We were asked to attend a breakfast the next morning, "to acquaint us with the property". You most definitely would be required to advance 10% of sale price. The buyer is required to advance the whole sale price as well as the 10% reimbursement before you send any money. If the agent that you spoke with here at my office did not tell you that you would have to pay transfer processing fee please let me know. This is obligatory.

We entered into a sales agreement with this company April 9 2015. Paid closing fees of $4000.00 plus prepaid income tax in the amount of $2490.00 bougus form they used). Closing date came and past, we were informed that the buyer did not have his entrance fee of $6000.00 paid, therefore no closing. We agreed to extend for a time as he would have his money in a couple of weeks. Next we were informed that he died and that they had refunded his non refundable deposit of $4000. but not ours as they had another buyer but wanted an additional $2500 for closing we said no...none of this new buyer was in writing and we never signed a new sales agreement. All we wanted was our refund of fees paid. The escrow company did not hold the funds in escrow but had dispersed to the Timeshare Resal... Read More
