MEXICO CITY, MEXICO — Tuesday kicks off the start of the 2012 AMDETUR Convention in Mexico City, providing opportunities for timeshare industry resorts in Mexico to gather together, network, and learn more about the changes happening to this industry.

For timeshare companies operating in the United States, this convention offers an opportunity to network with some of the leading vacation industry providers in Latin America.

AMDETUR stands for Asociación Mexicana de Desarrolladores Turísticos, also known as the Mexican Resort Development Association. This trade group acts as the national association for the timeshare and fractional ownership industry in Mexico, and the three-day event starting on Tuesday will be the 26th annual convention that AMDETUR has hosted.

It runs June 20-22, 2012 at the Hilton Hotel Mexico City Reforma in Mexico City.

The 2012 AMDETUR Convention affords timeshare resorts across the globe with an opportunity to learn about the changes that have taken place in the global vacation ownership industry throughout the past year. As the convention organizers have noted, this industry has witnessed the evolution of different types of vacation products, and the convention will put a spotlight on those changes and help attendees visualize ways they can innovate in the future.

As part of that, the convention will feature a panel discussion on “Mexico Brand: A 360° Vision.” It will be presented to help attendees define strategies for better positioning Mexico to the rest of the world as a great vacation destination.

The fact that AMDETUR exists, and has been hosting a timeshare convention for nearly three decades, shows the continuous and rapid growth of tourism development in Mexico, the
convention’s organizers note.

The association was formed to provide a single trade group that could bring together the top players in this field, and jointly work together to create a strong regulatory framework to allow the industry to promote tourism real estate in Mexico.

Created in 1987, AMDETUR brings together investors, resort developers, marketers, managers, operators, real estate companies, law practices and consultancy firms. Currently, AMDETUR represents 90 percent of the tourism development businesses in Mexico.

“With the participation of renowned personalities and an outstanding program, this year our annual convention will be doubly special as we are celebrating AMDETUR’s 25th Anniversary,” said Romárico Arroyo, the chairman of AMDETUR. “Twenty-five years of service, work and achievements, driving vacation ownership evolution in Mexico.”

Paul Mattimoe, the president and CEO of Perspective International, called this an important conference for the entire timeshare industry.

“Latin America is one of the fastest growing regions in the world for vacation ownership products, and now that our new Latin America edition of Perspective Magazine is in circulation, we are actively pursuing ways to promote Mexico and the rest of the region,” he said.

Perspective Magazine is an information provider for the shared ownership industry, and will be a media sponsorship for the 2012 AMDETUR Convention.
