Timeshare Scams and Fraud
Occidental vacation club scam - Occidental vacation club
I was on vacation with my sister in law to the Occidental Vacation resort in Punta Cana about 2 years ago when we were approached to listen to there 90 min marketing program. Fine, it was early in the am and we'd have the rest of the day to enjoy our vacation. Multiple times we tried to leave but they kept us there and promising us more incentives to buy the timeshare. They promised us discounts on airfare and showed us on the website how it worked, gave us the VIP package to enjoy, and kept coming over with quite a few boozey drinks. We kept saying no and they kept lowering the cost of the timeshare and increasing the amount of weeks we were able to use. Since I do travel a lot and vacation quite a bit it was actually sounding pretty decent. I asked for more examples of what they had to offer and was actually extremely interested in the airfare of which they showed me how the program worked and went to their website and showed me the deals and I'd have to book they them and was able to use it for friends and family traveling anywhere. This was a pretty good deal so we kept listening and we're informed they'd increase our weeks to use at any of the timeshares to 7 weeks to be used every 2 years. I inquired about this and asked, now what if I'd like to use 3 weeks one year and the 2nd year I'd like to use the remaining 4 weeks since I'd never take 7 weeks in 1 year. They assured me this was exact. I asked them this same question multiple times since I am rather OCD on some things of which are my vacations. I was assured every time that I didn't have to use all 7 weeks in one year and the time share was also mine for 25 years. After all this had been going on, we realized we had been there for over 7 hours of which much of the time we kept saying no. We decided to sign and we're told we had 5 days to cancel. So we put the money down and thought about it and went back 2 days later and they basically told us we signed and ushered us out. Flash forward to this year when I went to use the timeshare and called and was told I wasn't eligible to use it on the odd years. Odd years?!?! What the hell is this all about. I have 7 weeks to use in 2 years time starting last year of which I used one week. When the contract came around, about 12 pages, they put in there with all the fine print we only had it every other year. I've tried to email, call, write to anybody in the company and nobody will respond. Does anybody have any advice on this matter?? If a company has to scam and booze up prospective clients, they are rather shady.
