The Pros and Cons of Last Minute Timeshare Rentals

Timeshare sales and rentals are big business. Many travel fans enjoy the ability to stay somewhere nice with great amenities that still feels like home, a difficult balance for most hotels to strike, but one that can easily be found at many timeshares. However, while timeshares can offer travelers all types of fantastic accommodations, it can be difficult to rent one at the right time, in the right place and for the right price. Shopping for last minute timeshare rentals, even though it is certainly a very different experience from planning an ordinary vacation, can be the perfect solution.

Of course, the biggest potential downside to renting a timeshare at the last minute versus booking well in advance is that you may find it difficult to find your first choice available when you hoped to travel. During popular times of year such as around holiday, timeshare owners tend to book their properties well in advance. However, if you are willing to be flexible regarding the dates you wish to travel, you will often find properties available for much less than you would ordinarily pay. In addition, keep in mind that renters do sometimes fall through. You could occasionally find a plum destination available last minute during a peak season for a great price if you are willing to pounce on it last minute, just do not count on that happening every time.

With that attitude, however, you will find that there are more pros than there are cons to renting a timeshare property last minute. The financial savings are the most obvious benefit. Owners who cannot use their timeshare for their allotted time do not like to leave their time slot open because they are losing the money that they have invested into their timeshare. Instead of paying for time that then goes unused, the owner will often rent to vacationers at a significantly reduced cost, especially for a longer stay.

Of course, timeshare properties can be found all over the world, both in the United States and internationally. Even though last minute rentals may limit your scheduling options somewhat, they certainly will not limit your destination options. Available properties can range from a rustic cabin in the mountains to a luxurious condo on the beach. They offer much more room than a hotel room and are conveniently located in the world’s most popular vacation destination. Timeshare renters have the convenience of everything being set up for them so that they do not have to bring anything except their necessities — with the added benefit, if you have the flexibility to be able to book last minute, of an often dramatically reduced price.

Of course, whether a timeshare is booked the last minute or well in advance, it will feature the same wide array of amenities. The specifics can vary from one location to another, of course, but many include a full kitchen as well as a washer and dryer and wireless internet. Most have some type of pool, either indoor or outdoor, as well as a hot tub and exercise facilities. Also, some timeshares provide activities for both adults and children. They may offer poolside bingo, children’s camps, magic shows, blackjack tournaments, dancing, and discount golf or tennis lessons. If you have wanted to go on a timeshare vacation but did not think you could afford it, look into the possibility of a last minute rental. You might be amazed by what is available!
