Diamond Resorts preys on the public by selling a product it doesn't deliver and upcharging for utilizing the product of "stress free" vacationing. Unless a reservation is made a year in advance it is very difficult to utilize. Fees are assessed for a myriad of upsells including reservation insurance, rental fees for held back "inventory" and yearly $2000 in "maintenance fees." Also, unused points are lost forever.
Diamond offers an alternative program to convert points to reimbursement dollars for taking a vacation that doesn't include staying at its resorts...only catch is you go one year, can only be reimbursed Jan-March the next year utilizing that current year's points.
As a senior citizen it is very frustrating to be on a fixed income and only able to use the facilities I pay maintenance fees on if I plan a year in advance.
I think it is fraudulent that people off the street get into better accommodations last minute than I do as an "owner" who pays for that privilege and who funds maintenance for the properties.
Most recently, today, I tried to reserve for a weekend in May at a So Calif resort or alternative facilities and nothing is available. I truly believe if I go on Hotels.com that property is being rented for high fees thus Diamond Resorts is double dipping - taking payments from owners and collecting from non-owners. I have personal experience regarding this practice and involved the BBB who intervened and resolved the problem for me. I now feel my account has a flag which affects my ability to be accommodation. I have no proof only suspect but this could be a form of retaliation.
